This set represents Irish warriors from the 4th to 11th centuries, a dynamic period of Dark Age warfare. Constantly in conflict, Irish warbands fought each other and raided across the sea against the Late Romans, Welsh, Picts and Romano-British. Later they faced Saxons and Vikings, while also settling in parts of Wales and Scotland. Irish warriors were typically lightly armed, using spears, javelins, swords and war clubs.

Warfare focused on fast raids, ambushes and skirmishing, though they could also form close order shield walls when needed. A small elite of armoured nobles and chieftains, equipped with mail and helmets, led these warbands. The Irish were known to use dogs in hunting and warfare, able to chase down enemies and drag a man from his horse or chariot.

So far I have only had a chance to open up the packaging and examine the sprues...and i have to say that i am very favourably impressed by the level of detail on each figure. There seems to be minimal flash anywhere and i am expecting that clean up of the individual parts will be easy...looking forward to the build and painting
On a different note...i would hope that Victrix would consider a line of Middle Earth figures...Mithril Miniatures does a line...and Angus McBride did a wonderful job illustrating Middle Earth characters and armies for FASA Middle Earth Role Playing Games as well a Rolemaster

Getting back into the hobby with Dark Age Irish

Great fun to put together, put on some tunes, an audiobook or podcast and away you go. Excellent detail, lots of variety so no two figures look exactly alike. The LBM shield transfers and banners will look fantastic on the finished minis. Now I just have to get to painting them … wish me luck!
