Upcoming Release: Horse Archers

Upcoming Release: Ancient Horse Archers

The set comprises many different head and quiver styles so you can represent the various Scythian, Saka, Dahae tribes and also the Parthians.

The torso is split in two with 3 varied leg halves and then you have a choice of 6 upper torsos with various arm and head options to make this a very dynamic and versatile set.

There are lots of extras such as daggers, swords and axes to hang from the belts so every figure will be an individual!

Here we have renders of the first and second horse archer figure:

On the second figure we wanted to show some left handed options. Horse archers were expert bowmen, raised in the saddle from childhood and practising with the bow every day to gain strength and proficiency. Many expert archers can shift from left to right handed when shooting, which makes sense when having to shoot forward, left, right and behind.

Here we have some renders of the 3rd and 4th horse archer figures:

Both figures are performing the Parthian shot, shooting behind them at the pursuing enemy. The ability to be able to shoot all around was the great skill of the horse archer. They could turn retreat into attack in an instant and cause real headaches for any foe.

Figure 4 is performing a very dramatic and agile shooting style. This was heavily based on the rather splendid horse archer in the reference image and also on watching military historian Mike Loades (Bottom right reference image) perform the Parthian shot.

Here we have the final position renders for the ancient horse archers set.

We have an archer firing to the left and also a Female warrior with some head and arm variants. The Scythians had female warriors fighting alongside their menfolk. This female upper torso is totally optional.

The guy shooting behind his back/over the shoulder is amazing: I never knew that was possible outside of a comic book!

Can’t wait for these. Will there be Saka infantry too? They’re one of the nationalities nit represented in my Persian army.

Beautiful set. Victrix keeps making some of the best historical minis.

Is there a date for release?

This looks interesting, but I thought I’d recalled somewhere that this set was going to have at least one option for a right-handed archer, shooting to his right side and not the left as almost all miniatures including kitbashes tend to do. It’s just a little annoying having rank and files all flanking around a unit, aiming left while shooting in the opposite direction. I literally magnetize my horses and archers for this very reason…..
Kudos on adding female body options, really love that and it gives the set more versatility in that regard

I imagine the horse archers are going to be available shortly, in the meantime, can you tell us anymore about the contents? Is there a command frame? How many female torso’s per set? I imagine it will have 12 figures, is that true?

To Alex. Thanks , thinking of combining this new horse archer kit with Persian parts to make Hepthalite "Huns ", or maybe Dark Age Roman ( Gothic) to make Alani nomad horsemen

To Adam, they’re mostly interchangeable in limbs, and all in the same scale. Some conversions would be more difficult than others.
